Review of Dark Secrets by Madeline Pryce

Dark Secrets
Dark Secrets by Madeline Pryce

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I’m freaking speechless. I don’t even know where to start. Dark Secrets is the continuation of Ella and Micah’s story and it may be even better than Dark Cravings. There is so much that goes on in this book that I don’t even know where to begin. I had to check the blurb to make sure I don’t reveal any spoilers and now realize I can’t talk about most of the stuff I want to talk about because it could really spoil the book for those who haven’t read it yet. UGH! That is seriously frustrating.

Getting the easy stuff out of the way, the sex between Micah and Ella is even HOTTER this time around. They’ve spent enough time together and have learned what the other likes, so ALL the right buttons are pushed. Seriously hot! But the sex wasn’t the only thing that nearly made my Kindle go up in flames and yes, you’ll have to read it to understand that. Both Micah and Ella learn some painful truths in this installment of the Dark series and their love is tested more than once in this book. I won’t lie, I was concerned as the end of the book neared and I didn’t see how Ms. Pryce was going to be able to resolve the situation in time. It seems that each time they get one loose end tied up, another one (or two) begins to unravel. While there is some resolution, there are still unanswered questions – this is a good thing because that means more Micah and Ella!

Again, the author took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. There were moments that I was smiling so big that my face hurt and moments when the emotional devastation a character felt was so strong, I couldn’t help but hurt for them. Oddly, the never-ending stream of upheavals that Micah and Ella have to address in this book never felt contrived or forced to me. I’ve read books in which it felt like the author had a checklist of plot points they seemed compelled to include, thus making a storyline feel forced. That was so not the case here. Ms. Pryce creates a story that is action-packed, sexy as sin, and entertaining from beginning to end. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.

Oh my goodness that was hot! I want to know where I can find my very own lion. Ms. Pryce can write some sexy vampires but I think that Dante just might exceed them in sexy points and not just because he's hot.

In Dark Innocence we find Hannah not coping well with life post-Lizbeth’s abduction. She's trying to numb herself with alcohol, drugs, and sex. Unfortunately her eidetic memory makes any reprieve short and her actions just add another guilt-laden memory to her suffering. Fortunately she is able to call Dante to help her out of her most recent predicament as they have remained in contact since he helped rescue her. That Dante is the only person in her life who knows the depths to which she has sunk, yet still comes to her aid when she calls only adds to the feeling of safety his presence instills in Hannah. It is the manner in which he handles Hannah that increases his hotness quotient exponentially. He is gentle with her when she needs it but is not afraid to deal out a little tough love and it is this tough love that helps her to get her life back under control - no more alcohol, no more drugs, no more men ... well, only one man. May I say that I loved Hannah's attempted seduction? I would still be laughing were it not for the nail-biting situation Hannah found herself in immediately afterwards.

As the danger Hannah faces intensifies she finds herself under Dante's protection and, even more importantly, under Dante! Thank you Ms. Pryce for making Dante a lion shifter! Everyone knows that cats love their cream and Dante is no exception ... oh my that man sure made my kitty purr. I appreciated that Dante spent so much time being intimate with Hannah, engaging in some serious foreplay, and made sure she was ready before they finally went all the way - and you'll have to read the book to know exactly what I'm referring to.

As with Dark Cravings, there is a lot of action as Hannah finds herself the target of a stalker. And despite the fact that she has been sheltered from the dark side of the world by her family for much of her life, with Dante's help, she finds her inner strength and proves that she has Grey blood running through her veins too. Again Ms. Pryce writes with just the right balance of erotica and paranormal romance. I'm looking forward to reading Dark Secrets next.

Review of Dark Cravings by Madeline Pryce

I am so mad that it took me so long to finally make time to read this book. Oh, it was sooooooo good. Dark Cravings is the first book in the Dark series and the beginning of Ella and Micah’s story. You know the old saying, “it’s a fine line between love and hate.” Well that is Ella and Micah’s relationship as the book opens.

Ella is a half-turned vampire still working for the Shadow Agency – an agency whose sole mission is to eliminate vampires and other demons. The only reason she’s still breathing is because her family helped to found the agency and she’s one of the best Shadow Hunters they’ve had in years – and that was before her acquisition of the supernatural skills that accompanied her partial transformation. In a word, Ella is bada$$. She is one of the best female lead characters I have read in a long time when it comes to paranormal romances. Those she cares for, she cares for deeply and her loyalty and protective instinct toward them borders on suicidal at times.

Of course, with such a strong female lead, you absolutely must have an equally strong alpha male lead. And Ms. Pryce succeeds in this challenge superbly as Micah is the perfect yin to Ella’s yang. The chemistry between the two is staggering. Even when they hated each other you could feel the pull between them, so it was no surprise to me that when they were finally compelled to mate, it was intense. Oh to have been a fly on that hotel room wall. Four days? Really? Although we are only treated to snippets from their first encounter (they were under a spell and couldn’t remember it all), they certainly make up for it each and every time thereafter. I don’t have a word for how hot the sex was.

But Dark Cravings isn’t all romance and erotica; the book also has some serious action going on and there are definitely some underlying storylines that I look forward to reading more of in future installments. I am ashamed to say that until now, I have only read one of Ms. Pryce’s Ellora’s Cave Quickies. But that is soon to be rectified as I am about to indulge in a [a:Madeline Pryce|7503278|Madeline Pryce|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1388860195p2/7503278.jpg] reading binge. Up next is Dark Innocence and I am so looking forward to reading Hannah’s story. I cannot wait to devour the rest of the Dark series as this author can weave a wonderful story that balances erotica and paranormal romance perfectly.
