The Capture by Erika Wilde

THE CAPTURE: The Marriage Diaries, Volume 6
THE CAPTURE: The Marriage Diaries, Volume 6 by Erika Wilde

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Eden delivers again! One of the things I’ve really enjoyed about the series is that of the novellas I have read, the ones that are from one of an author’s series is written so that it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone book yet introduces you to that series and The Capture does this very well.

Dean and Jillian have been married for twenty years and less than a year ago they spiced up their sex life with a bit of BDSM. As part of it, they each have a “fantasies” vase from which they will draw one of their partner’s fantasies and try to fulfill it if they can. In order to fulfill the most recent of Jillian’s fantasies pulled, Dean books them on a weekend getaway to Eden where he has made arrangements for a rather elaborate fantasy – Jillian being claimed by a rogue pirate. While I have only read a few of the books from the Invitation to Eden series, this is the first that has involved role play and it was great. The staff – and possibly other guests – did a wonderful job of recreating the pirate-filled tavern where Jillian was auctioned off, not only did she fall into her role but I felt the realistic nature of the role-play scene. As Dean embraced his role as Black Heart so thoroughly it was easy to get swept up in the story right along with Jillian. I loved that Jillian and Dean showed that twenty years of marriage did not equate stale sex because the sex scenes are HOT! Shiver me timbers and all my girly parts! I look forward to reading more from the Invitation to Eden series as well as checking out Ms. Wilde’s The Marriage Diaries series.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Review of Pleasure Point by Eden Bradley

Pleasure Point: Invitation to Eden
Pleasure Point: Invitation to Eden by Eden Bradley

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I SO loved this book! Miranda and Roan are both employed by the Eden resort – Miranda as a full-time pastry chef who lives on the island and Roan as a consultant who visits the island every few months to make changes to the dungeon and its equipment as needed. They both like sex with a power exchange, clear D/s roles, and, as their story reveals, a bit of edge. They also belong to that exclusive club no one really wants to be a member of – the widow and widowers club. With so many things in common, it’s no surprise that the Island puts them together for the week.

While Pleasure Point is full of steamy scenes of submission, it is ultimately a second chance love story. Both Miranda and Roan loved their spouses deeply, and five and ten years later (respectively) they are still feeling the loss of their love. They agree to the week together in an effort to help one another take the next step in the healing process. I found their emotional responses during the week to be authentic to their characters’ pasts as they dealt with fear, anxiety, a resurgence of grief, pain, anger, attraction, desire, trust, and, eventually, love. Yes, they fell in love in less than a week, but it wasn’t instant, they fought it, and it came with the earning of one another’s trust. The relationship development felt real because they were able to overlook one another’s emotional upsets due to their shared widow/widower status.

Despite being set on a fantasy island, I found Pleasure Point to be a believable tale of a couple’s second chance at happiness. I like my contemporary romances to have a happy ending after a believable storyline and Ms. Bradley did an excellent job in delivering it. The journey she takes Miranda and Roan on is an emotional one and I enjoyed getting to tag along for the ride – even if I did have to break out the tissues at one point. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Bradley’s work and was excited to learn that I actually have book two in her San Francisco Doms series in a box set I purchased – now I just have to fit it in to my reading schedule.

Review of Wild Ride by Opal Carew

Wild Ride: Invitation To Eden
Wild Ride: Invitation To Eden by Opal Carew

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Wild Ride was exactly that. As expected, an Invitation to Eden is never quite what the invitee expects. When Marissa receives an unexpected invitation she thinks that maybe her prayers have been answered because the private island is the perfect place to hide from her biker ex-boyfriend who is trying to insert himself back into her life. By the time she learns that her safe haven might not be so safe after all, it’s too late to turn back so she endeavors to enjoy her time on Eden, convincing herself that there is no way that Rip would be on the island. Of course the island gives you what you need, and Marissa soon finds herself face-to-face with her terrifying ex and in her haste to escape, she jumps on the back of Killer’s bike.

Killer. Now that's a name that is sure to cause feelings of safety and security to invade your head and heart. Not even a little bit. Yet for some reason (lust), Marissa finds herself trusting him and places herself in his care. This is the point at which I seriously questioned her sanity. Considering her reaction to Rip, the last thing she should do is hop on the bike of someone she doesn’t know – he could be riding with Rip for all she knows and she just delivered herself to him. But trust is not always something that is rational and he made her feel safe, so she went with it and boy did she ever go with it. Once Killer gets her to safety he can no longer pretend that she doesn’t affect him. And as he proceeds to put her through the paces of submission, he realizes how much he underestimated the effect she has on him.

As expected on Eden, the sex scenes are hot and they are plentiful. The sex between Killer and Marissa was HOT! During conversations earlier in the book between the two about fantasies, I expected that there would be a ménage scene and Ms. Carew did not disappoint – surprised me with the identity of the other man, but no disappointment. The inclusion of two additional MC members was not surprising either and seriously ratcheted up the heat factor with the MFM and MFMM interactions. However, what did surprise me was the inclusion of another female and the FF scene that followed. It surprised me because Killer seemed confident that Marissa would be okay with it when they had not discussed it previously and because there was no indication earlier in the book that is was coming. Sadly this jerked me out of the story and interfered with my reading flow. Despite this interruption, Wild Ride was a really good read for me and I am looking forward to more of Ms. Carew’s writing and another trip or two to Eden.
